Practice without Richard.

Today, Chris and I are practicing with our backup bassist, Jake Anderson. I've known Jake since I was about 3, so I'm pretty pumped.
Richard can't play the show on the 30th, so we had to get somebody to replace him, and I think Jake was the best candidate for the job. It's gonna be disappointing without Richard, but at least he can play other shows.

Those Theives

After four days of recording, we've finally finished our first song. It turned out much better than expected, and we actually talked about playing shows together, and possibly recording an album. We picked the name Those Thieves to be the name of the band. The name was stolen from a project that JD had wanted me to participate in a few years ago.
Speaking of JD, the lineup is as follows:
Richard Herbsleb: Vocals, guitar
JD West: Vocals, guitar
Ivory Mauldin: Vocals, bass
Grady Drugg: Vocals, drums
It's not really official that we're calling ourselves a 'band' yet, but we're pretty excited about how this track turned out, so keep your eyes peeled for a Those Thieves show in the San Antonio area.

Old songs.
I found this old, 12 minute, low-quality recording of terrible songs on my computer. I think I only used one of the songs for anything, and the rest I kinda just had them around. I remember sending it to Justin Ross of Side Effects a few years ago, but now I wish I didn't. I really wish I didn't. It's so bad that it's not just something I can say, "Oh, I was 14, I can just pass that by." It's more along the lines of Grady Drugg: The "Worst Of" Collection.

Recording some hardcore?

Today, Richard and I started work on a new song. It's going to be different from my usual indie/acoustic stuff, and much different from Richard's usual bluegrass/folk stuff. It's weird, but I like it. It's best described as if American Football teamed up with We Came As Romans, or some odd collaboration like that.
We recorded both guitars today using my Fender Telecaster, and Richard's Jackson Dinky; both going through his Marshall MG100HDFX/MG412A half stack. Richard had previously used his Jackson while we were both in Turtle Spew, and I've been using my blue Telecaster since the departure of my Schecter Corsair. So far, the tracks sound pretty good, but I can't really say much yet, since the tracks aren't even mixed yet and it's still only electric guitar.
Tomorrow, we will begin recording drums. The setup I'll be using for these recordings will be the usual Blunderfuls set:
Gretsch Catalina Club Mod drum set with mahogany shells
18" x 20" bass drum
12" x 8" tom
14" x 12" floor tom
13" x 6" snare drum
22" Zildjian K ride
18" Zildjian A crash/ride
14" Zildjian hi-hats
I'm pretty pumped.

I might start using this again.
Yeah. I just deleted fucking EVERYTHING. I started this account when I was in middle school so there was just a bunch of stupid shit that you would expect from the overweight kid with long hair in 7th grade. "Look at this drawing I did of my shop teacher! I think I know politics, let's talk about terrorism! MUDVAAAAAAAAYYYYYNE!!"
Jesus Christ, I hope nobody I know saw that shit. Oh, and to explain the actual URL of this blog (grady-coldmac), that's also really embarrassing. When I was younger, I used to make crappy sprite comics and post them on websites I would make using Yahoo! Geocities. One of the many, many, many, many websites I made was called Cold-Macaroni.com. And it was among the worst.
Anyway, if we haven't met let me introduce myself.
Hello, I'm Grady Drugg. That's my real last name. I've grown to like it.
I play lots of instruments, write stupid songs, and don't talk to anybody because I'm too scared. Wowee-zowee.
Take a listen to the sounds I base my life upon:
